Our Training Contracts

We seek to attract, nurture and reward the best trainee solicitors. Trainees are an investment for the future and we endeavour to retain them all on qualification.

We value individuality, innovation, focus and the ability to think creatively therefore we welcome applications for our work experience placements and training contracts from all kinds of undergraduates and graduates.

Our two year training contract reflects the modern business of law, offering you a range of seats with practical experience and insight supporting you through to qualification.

Our training contracts are now streamed in accordance with our main areas of practice, so as a trainee you will undertake a training contract based within our Personal Injury practice area or one within our Business and Private Client practice area. This approach is designed to ensure you gain the experience needed, and develop the expertise to enable you to become an excellent solicitor.

Under the Personal Injury streamed training contract you will undertake three four month seats and then a twelve month seat. In the Business and Private Client streamed training contract you will undertake three five month seats and a nine month seat.

Remuneration

We meet all fees associated with the Legal Practice Course (LPC) and Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) and also offer a competitive maintenance grant.

Our current trainee salaries are, for a first year trainee outside of London, £22,450 and £24,650 in the second year. For a first year trainee in London its £30,000 rising to £32,150 in the second year.

Each year we recruit 25-30 trainees from a mix of legal and non-legal backgrounds. We believe as a trainee you are an investment for the firms' future and we always endeavour to retain trainees upon qualification.

Legal Work Placement

Each summer we also run a legal work placement programme in our England-based offices. The aim of this programme is to provide potential training contract applicants with an insight into what life is like at Irwin Mitchell. A large proportion of our trainees have undertaken a work placement with the firm. We offer a one week placement and you will be paid an allowance for the week.
